Fraxel is a brand – the industry standard of skin resurfacing lasers. It targets specific damaged tissue on aging and sun damaged skin stimulating the production of collagen and new healthy skin cells. Fraxel is FDA-approved and is effective on acne scars and surgical scars as well as:
- Age and sun spots (pigmented lesions)
- Brown spots / pregnancy mask (melasma)
- Skin resurfacing
- Wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet)
Similar to Fraxel, fractional lasers target specific damaged tissue and is the fraction or percentage of skin that is treated in any one session. However, fractionated lasers do not measure up to Fraxel as they are just handpieces attached to another laser. Consequently, the results from a fractionated laser are not as strong, even or the same quality.
Since a “picture is worth a thousand words,” the left photo below shows the evenness of Fraxel, and the right photo shows the stamping that occurs from a fractionated handpiece.
